RESEARCH INTERESTS ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
I am interested in how the genes within the genome are regulated. More specifically, my research aims to understand how distinct pockets of the nucleus, called “nuclear bodies,” are sequestered for unique coordinated gene regulation. I use the model system Drosophila melanogaster because many elegant and established molecular and genetic tools exist in this organism. Using a variety of techniques including genetics, microscopy, biochemistry, and genomics, I have investigated the functions of specific proteins and genetic cues at two different nuclear bodies: the histone locus body and the male X chromosome. This research contributes to our understanding of nuclear biology and genetic regulation, which could lead to a better understanding of the pathologies of genetic diseases.
